‘Pop’ goes our movement

In a world where the death of a third-rate, largely unremarkable actress gets more attention and TV time than a war in Afghanistan or genocide in Sudan, it’s impossible to overstate the power of popular culture in American society.

The gluttonous coverage of Anna Nicole Smith’s accidental overdose — as well as her autopsy and baby-daddy-drama — was temporarily threatened as America’s top never-ending news story when radio shock jock Don Imus called members of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team "some nappy-headed hos."

Had Virginia Tech not tragically experienced the deadliest school massacre in our country’s history, there’s no telling how long the What-Does-Imus-Say-About-Us-As-Americans media marathon would have continued.

Panel at OU discusses new trend of casual voyeuristic violence

There's a new mischievous teenage pastime coming to town, and this time the stakes are higher than sneaking into Dad's cabinet to find that R-rated movie you weren't supposed to watch. Look out, America: Here comes happy-slapping. Three panelists discussed happy-slapping, the London teenage phenomenon that is also the subject of an upcoming Ohio University School of Theater production, during the school's regular brownbag lunch meeting Friday. "American gangs have been beating people randomly as a part of that culture for a long time," Thomas Vander Ven, criminology director and sociologist at OU, said of America's violent tendencies. "Filming the violence is new, but the behavior is not." At the brownbag meeting, participants explained that happy-slapping is a random violent act that has becoming popular among London youth and has begun to spread to the United States and other places via online forums such as YouTube.

How to Get Into Law School - Three Tips For the Brand new college ...

I'm not going to discuss the test and its components in any detail, but it is sufficient for me to say that the LSAT test does not test your knowledge of anything. Instead, it is designed to test your ability to think in certain ways.

Anyone can learn how to excel at thinking in these ways, but it takes lots of time and lots of practice. You shouldn't be surprised to learn that the few months before most people take the LSAT is a hectic time. In addition to preparing for the LSAT, you may be preparing your law school applications, finishing your final college courses, and rejoicing in the prospect of your impending graduation.

The result of all this is that even those who think they are preparing extensively aren't even coming close to practicing as much as you could if you start now.

Fans and filmmakers at New York Comic Con

The fringes of pop culture converged at the Javitz Center for the New York Comic Con last weekend, creating a fan-filled orgy of awesomeness. Mainstream celebrity appearances (for example, Stephen Colbert promoting his irreverent cartoon Tek Jansen) were less noteworthy than the sheer celebration of synthesizing imagination with entertainment. .

The Perfect Cup of Tea

Tea making has become an art form in these cultures, as well as heightening the properties of the tea and transforming it into the perfect cup of tea.

But not all of us have the time for an elaborate ceremony involving tea pots and leaves and open flames to give us that tea injection that is so vital to our daily functioning. Some of us also need a method of tea preparation that is fast, yet stylised and technical, and most importantly caters exclusively to the use of tea bags.

First, you will need a cup (preferably warmed with hot water before you put the teabag in). The number of tea bags you will need is usually directly proportional to the number of cups of tea you are making. If you are brewing black tea, make sure you pour the boiling hot water directly onto the teabag in the cup.
